OIL FILTER GRIPPING SOCKET

Abstract

The concept of this oil filter gripping socket is based on the current situation at the workshops especially in automotive maintenance related work. The aim of the paper is to design a tool that can help to facilitate in installation and removal of oil filter from cars. The designed tool could be used to install and remove oil filter with ease, in order to increase safety and handling performance of craftsmen. Problem occurs during installation and removing the oil filters from cars as sometimes the oil filter is stuck and could not be removed by hand. Hence, this tool helps to remove it but sometimes changing the oil filter by using the wrench is also troublesome due to the oily condition of the oil filter. A questionnaire has been designed and distributed to ten workshops and craftsmen to test the capability and the effectiveness of the tool. The responds given were great but several improvements were also suggested. Furthermore, it is hard to find suitable tool that can use to open different sizes of oil filter due to different cars have different sizes of oil filter. This tool was designed with better and sustainable material, and with smoother and better mechanism to overcome the problem stated and function more efficiently.
