Polytechnic Students’ Perceptions towards Google Classroom for ESL Learning: A case study

Abstract

Technology and the Internet in English for Second Language teaching have rapidly evolved especially in this unprecedented time. Massive choice of online applications and reliable online platforms really help in providing options for teachers in choosing the suitable tools for English language teaching and learning. This paper aims to explore the students’ perceptions towards Google Classroom as a tool for ESL learning in a Malaysian polytechnics’ context. Data were collected from 33 students of Diploma in Hotel Management in a selected polytechnic in Melaka, Malaysia. An online questionnaire was given to the respondents and data obtained were then analyzed. The findings showed that the students perceived Google Classroom as easy to use and useful for their ESL learning. The result of this study is hoped to enlighten the institutions, especially the educators in using the use of technology effectively to create a practical ESL learning environment.
