Awareness of Building Information Modeling (BIM) among polytechnic’s students
Abstract
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a recent digital technology replacing traditional methods that assist the revolution of the construction industry into a digitized model full of information. The application of BIM in the construction industry requires higher budgets, abilities, and competence among practitioners. Previous researches indicate the adaptation of BIM in Malaysia construction industry is inferior. Therefore, this quantitative study is conducted to determine the level of awareness and sources of BIM knowledge among polytechnic’s students based on the structured questionnaire survey and data were obtained from 297 students. Descriptive statistics were used to infer the overall study data and gives an insight into a variety of data collected. The findings of the data analysis were carried out with the help of IBM SPSS software Statistics 25.0. This study discovered a large number of students had poor awareness of BIM because the source of BIM knowledge was solely on social media. Hence, this problem can be overcome by introducing a new course on the Introduction and Implementation of BIM among polytechnic’s students.
