MAKING SENSE OF TVET INFLUENCE IN THE HOSPITALITY CURRICULUM

Abstract

Previous studies have continuously reported hospitality graduates’ reluctance in pursuing a career in the industry, while employers were also reported to be dissatisfied with the hospitality graduates’ job performance. Hence, this study aims to resolve the problems by highlighting the importance of TVET in the hospitality curriculum. Using purposive sampling, 251 respondents from community colleges were involved in the self-administered survey. Statistical analysis was applied to examine data from the survey. The findings revealed that employers were pleased with the quality of the graduates from the programme that heavily embeds technical skills. This study concludes that a TVET-based curriculum is indispensable in the hospitality curriculum. Findings from this study will further enhance the understanding of the importance of TVET in solidifying the hospitality curriculum.
